COACH DESHAWN HAWKINS

After his first season as head coach of the 5th Grade Farmington Travel Team, Coach Hawkins was able to lead the team to a 19-3 record. Coming to Farmington Travel Team in 2018 after being an assistant coach with West Hartford Premier AAU, Coach Hawkins has dedicated himself to the nurturing and development of youth talent and character on the basketball court. A graduate of Capital Community College in 2002 where he scored over 1,200 points in two seasons, Coach Hawkins was nominated as a Junior College All- American basketball player. He continued his career at Elms College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Social Work, and played from 2002 to 2004 where he was named an All- Conference basketball player and participated in the 2004 New England Senior All- Star Game. Coach Hawkins went on to earn his MSW from the University of Saint Joseph and has over 10 years of experience as a child protection social worker, the last three years as a Supervisor, where he has been able to fulfill his passion of protecting and providing children with opportunities that they might not otherwise have due to life circumstances. Coach Hawkins works to instill discipline, and sportsmanship while teaching resilience and teamwork in conjunction with teaching the basic fundamentals of basketball, as Coach believes in teaching life lessons through the game that he loves so much.

COACH ANTONELLA MACCARONE

Antonella Maccarone has had an extensive playing and coaching career. She has coached boys and girls basketball for over 20 years throughout the Hartford County. Her earliest experiences include assistant coaching women’s cross country and women’s basketball at the University of Saint Joseph Division III in 2001-2005.  She was also the Girl’s Middle School head basketball coach at the Metropolitan Learning Center in Bloomfield 2013 and 2014 in which her team finished winning the conference championship in 2014. Since then Coach Maccarone has been coaching travel basketball in Farmington which includes 3rd grade and up through 8th grade. She is currently the assistant 5th grade Farmington Boys Travel Coach recently winning their conference two years in a row with an overall record of 36-8 . Her motto is,  “Team First” , “Always Give Your Best Effort”  “Compete” and "Have Fun"!

COACH GEORGE THOMPSON

Coach Thompson is an experienced athlete and youth sports coach in Farmington, CT with a passion for developing the skills of young athletes. He played his college ball at Wesleyan University, where he was a two-sport athlete excelling in both football and basketball.  Coach Thompson played his high school ball at Westminster School in Simsbury, CT. Coach Thompson’s coaching experience began at Wesleyan University and he has been coaching youth sports in the Farmington area for the last 5 years across several sports including basketball, baseball, soccer and flag football.
